Most people are familiar with passing through airport scanners before boarding a plane or – unfortunately, in today’s world – going through a metal detector before entering a school or public building. While newer millimeter-wave technologies are safer, many of these scanners still use x-ray-based backscatter technology ionizing radiation.

Defense Technologies International Corp. (OTC Pink: DTII) is a current reporting company and has developed the world’s first zero-radiation device to detect dangerous weapons and other illicit items by detecting subtle changes in magnetic fields.

Why Existing Scanners Fall Short

Metal detectors have become the status quo in public buildings and other venues. Conventional detectors – both walk-through and handheld – generate alternating magnetic fields and sense a metal object’s interaction with them. As a result, they can detect the presence of ferromagnetic metals common in most knives and firearms.

In airports and other high-risk venues, security personnel must detect non-metal threats, such as illicit drugs or plastic explosives. Millimeter-wave, backscatter X-ray, and ion scan technologies create a detailed outline of a person’s body in these cases. Security personnel or computers can then read these scans to identify abnormalities.

Unfortunately, both of these technologies have limitations. Most advanced scanning solutions cost upwards of $100,000 per unit, making them impractical for public buildings and events. Meanwhile, conventional metal detectors are cumbersome and generate electromagnetic fields that may interfere with pacemakers and other devices.

How the Passive Portal Works

Defense Technologies’ Passive Portal is a highly-portable passive metal detector that senses an object’s interaction with Earth’s magnetic field rather than generating an electromagnetic field. As a result, the technology emits zero radiation, doesn’t interfere with medical devices, and offers a combination of affordability, portability, and accuracy.

The technology has significantly lower upfront costs than even the most basic active metal detector, weighs less than 30 pounds, and has a near 99% threat detection accuracy. In addition, the Passive Portal can scan up to 250 people in under five minutes with only one or two security personnel necessary to assess potential threats.

These attributes make the technology uniquely suitable for schools, public buildings, banks, convenience stores, sports arenas, amusement parks, concert venues, and other locations where cost matters, radiation is unacceptable, and high throughput is essential. And protected by U.S. Patent No. 7408461B2, the company’s solution stands alone.

Looking Ahead

Defense Technologies recently moved its manufacturing and assembly operations to Dallas, Texas, where it’s completing the assembly of 25 Passive Portal units. On May 22, 2022, the company also engaged Care Resources of Tulsa, Oklahoma, to kick off a major marketing campaign across the country to drive sales over the coming quarters.

And finally, Passive Portal isn’t the company’s only product. The EBT Station detects the presence of a mask and measures a person’s temperature in real-time. As with the Passive Portal, the device is highly-portable, weather resistant, and affordable for schools, medical buildings, and other venues that wish to detect illness and enforce mask policies.

Investors may want to keep an eye on Defense Technologies International Corp. (OTC Pink: DTII) over the coming quarters as it ramps up its marketing efforts to drive sales. With its affordable, portable, and effective metal detectors and illness detection solutions, it’s easy to see how these devices could become ubiquitous in today’s environment.
